They say, when we were young, like lil brats, innocent and helpless, all we want is to be an adult.
Maybe the helplessnese, at the mercy of others is real, but not so much so if one lives in a wonderful happy, loving, give and take family and environment.
It takes a village to raise a child. True enough.
When we were kids, all we need actually, most important of all is a safe haven. Not just a roof over our heads, but soomeone or someones who selflessly look after us, because ..we are at the mercy of others. One mislook, we might fall into the drain, get hit by a bus, and so on and so on.
I guese, it is, one say, depends on luck and fate. Maybe there’s love too, for many, for sure. But I bet, responsibility comes into the picture too.
When we absorb what we must, shed away what we must shed, we suddenly realise, finally, we are an adult, though the journey, as we know it, perilous and filled with adventures.
There were soo many things we want to do. Make and carry out our own choices, for example. But for many, adulthood comes to soon. We were happy playing make belief, with no responsibilities and care in the world. We were truly the selfish brats personified. And the real world comes a egging at our doors. Or tragedy strucks.
For some, if not in general, the transition to adulthood was not momentous, but expected. It is something you grow up to be. Responsibilities, responsibilities, throw in family honour in that too ..
But growing up is magical.
For some, we never grew up. If many, the child is still inside us.
For some, the hurted and pained kid inside, still waited anguishly to be comforted and to be taken seriously.
One needs to. No one will do it for us. We, take care, of us.
Of each other, every part, every sinew. Every decision and every consequences.
What a roaring future. Full of calamities, or joy?
Growing up doesn’t have to be all too gloomy. Take it one day at a time. Perhaps there is still a 90 year old man, inside him,a child, who is trying to enjoy it all, grasp it all, and alas, life floats away. But a child, simple minded as people thought a child can be, feels but he orshe is quite quick on the uptake perhaps. For a new adventure, fora new quest.
Life, is, a mystery. How can a silly, boring adult, fully appreciates it. Hurrah!
