Dulu bolehlah I kata I nie semacam ulat buku, sekarang nie, niat segala macam passion tue rasanya ada, tapi macam rindu dalam bayangan sahaja at most times. I wish I read more, gitulah conclusion tak concusionnya.
What I want to share today, is a list of books that I’ve encountered that came to mind when I am writing this piece. Maybe it’s because it is unique that it stuck out first to me, maybe because sedarp sangat sampai menjilat brain cells I, or maybe I re read it so banyak kali, I totally jadi fan for life. Lets see ..
Birth of Venus
Entah cam mana, this book, have a tantalizing pull towards me time and time again. I baca buku nie, sebab student yang I ajar tuisyen kata, I can have his fathers book if I want. Entah macam mana, i ended up with a copy of it. Though, now dah tak ada ( rasanya dah donate kat one library), the tittle stays with me. I wonder why. Ceritanya takes place at the medieval age, zaman merchants or venice of some sorts, and the heroine’s family is in the textile business, and the business of marrying of their daughters for power and prestige, as well as riches. Maka, terjadilah scandal kowt, the girl fell in love with a struggling painter ..rasanya kelaparan and pitam nak mati or some sorts ( am I embellishing here and there nie?). She ended marrying a fine suitor, tapi ended up, being cuckolded by her own brother, Tomas namanya rasa. Her husband and Tomas, somehow somewhere in the story, ehem ehem ..and ehem. Being pragmatic and all, the heroin kind of resigned to it all and try to be a good wife to a renaissance man and all tapi …I remember her ending up in ..not a tavern, tapi monastery ..or abbey ( not Downtown Abbey) ..She gave birth, tapi anak painter tue ke rasanya..maybe not ..tapi when she died, rasanya ..it was discovered she had tattoes carved on her body ..as an act of rebellion to the establishement and also to her family and the world ..I remember that the heroin sounding of like she lives her life, happy with it, and no regret. The most beautiful was about her chance meeting with the artist, the love she had for him, rasanya ..till the end.
Somehow or rather, that’s the gist yang I can remember. Forgive me if I somehow ended up carving my own plot rather than the original. I miss that book or maybe, the supposed nostalgia of it all. Maybe it isn’t that great bila baca balik, I dunnow.
The Bearand the Nightingale
Nie a recent read nih. In an eerie and nostalgic way, I find the spattering of Russian words, culture and lores, pulls at me greatly which made me wonder ..do I have a Russian connections anywhere in my family tree? Wow, I wish kan..with this book I found myself gushing at the old world charm that is Russia or the other way it was pronounced in the book, Russa..I forgot?
I can’t wait for the 2nd instalment. The Girl and The Tower rasanya ..
Buku nie dah lama nie. Beli dengan duit yg menang kat Jepun some while back. Pasal the graduating Harvard students and their lives after that. What happened to them and all. Nice jadi soo snoopy but that’s not all. To see how their lives unfolded, the successes, the mistakes and reconciliations ..it’s a masterpiece. Eric tulis another epic book of the 70s or 80s, Love Story rasa tajuknya, yg popular the catch phrasenya – Love means you never have to say you’re sorry. Soh schweeet! Urk ..hahah. I re read it jugak a few tims. Nangis gak. Pasal love, struggle and cancer. And forgiveness. A masterpiece.
