Are there still malnourished children like the ones we saw in pictures in the text books or infamous articles about war and famine in the African countries? Kan, selalunya African children sahaja. But in recent times, the middle east casualties of war was also prominently displayed. It stays there, on our mid, though after some time, it recedes farther and farther back, until we almost don’t care about it continues with perhaps our daily bitching, whining and daily necessities.
In some glorious arguments provided by the ever witty debaters, one fine jewel of a solution, which astounded me back then, was, it was because of management of the solution or the distribution problem. It was easy but they failed at it, because they suck at seeing how it could have been easily managed. In the heated to and from or verbal jousts, it is quite easy to be ratified and again astounded by the sheer cleverness of it all. But is it and was it that easy?
Years have gone by, since that debater, perhaps the debaters before them, and maybe even debaters after them, speared the human famine and poverty solutions to their opponents. And yet ( this is me, having a bit of a tak berapa suka debaters ..huhu ..jealous much ..erm..find them a hostile bunch, some of them ..although I was once a bit of a varsity debater myself for some time), none of the world problems tak resolve lagi.
The world don’t seem to be running out of em, but getting from a debater to someone doing something much bigger than their yapping, seems to be a different thing altogether. Who are we to judge a perhaps pru pubescent with raging hormones, or on the verge of man/womenhood that they know everything. That applies to me too, perhaps.
I was then. Didn’t like it much, don’t consider myself proudly as one. I was more of a forumer, discussing intelligently ( konon) type. Gentle and persuasive ( konon). Tuela pasal, berdepan je dengan raging yapping morons who finds humour in disrobing someone’s dignity for the sake of winning and winning an argument, I was at lost. Susah tak nak go against orang yg kerja die bercakap and melawan and argue je. Bukan saja sebab they olz nak menang je kerja mereka. They are also stubborn and orang kata, tak lut fakta lain selain what they want to trump or justify. Of course, I maybe bias sebab of my past experiences but not all or clueless and nut jobs like those.
But the case for arguing itself, pun in itself bukan senang. Sesenang je nak tukar pendapat orang.
So, in this brave new world and economy, words yeah..it can move people, tapi it’s the money at most times, yang do the deeds. Sad but true. Corporations ( some corporations) dictates things that benefits their shareholders interests (nothing wrong in that), but at times, to the detriment ( define how much) of the consumer or public. The public can only be fooled soo much kan.
Maybe that’s why, even as berbuih and wonder bubble comes out of our handsome and prettiest debaters argue this and that, and perhaps when they grow up ( When I grow up ..teringat lagu Pussycat Dolls ..tetiba) their words alone, susah nak carry weight. Words, power ..and a lot of influence and $$$$, can make a lot of things move.
Apakan daya pada orang yang hanya ada rupa ( kah kah kah, ada hati!). What I mean is, bukan setakat nak ada kata, atau ucap, most of us, silenced before we can utter an opinion, sebab the business or market space, prohibits too much vocalness jugak. Ye ker, bukan ke its a free enterprise out there. It depends. Ideally, its free speech and outright honesty that can spell a universe of difference tapi, it its still work in progress ( to my most humble opinion lah kan).
To make the world a better place, can’t help the day I quipped that one motivator kasi ping! Kat us listeners that “If you want to change the world, clean your room!” ..kerlassst ko maria!
I believe, as much as teenagers browse through endless instagram and fb or other SNS profiles and accounts for as much as in for or self gratification, some and at least more than a handful, do care for social causes and would love to play a bigger role in supporting a great movement. Orang – orang muda sekarang, celik, tak semestinya orang dulu- dulu tak, it’s just for the present moment, its best to look also at the best attributes and potential that we observe.
Young or old, there is always that potential that one single conscious decision, could, not unlike the butterfly effect, one by one, cascade into making the world, a better place, for you and for me.
